Girl Talk
Pilot: Lisa
Airport : Mesa Pilot Development Center, New Mexico
Lisa shared with us a story about her female flight instructor. The flight instructor was asked to wear a tie to work, to which she quickly replied, "If you'll wear a bra, I'll wear a tie!" Needless to say, we all know who won that argument! You go girl! That's the power of a Pilot in Pink!
On a recent flight to Stephenville, Texas to grab lunch at our favorite BBQ place, as we were getting ready to fly back to Fort Worth, my husband (who happens to a commercial airline pilot) stopped to talk to some of the guys at the FBO there and I went over to pre-flight the airplane. Apparently another female who had flown in with her husband for lunch, saw me pre-flighting the airplane while my husband was busy “hangar flying”. She walked up to my husband and asked him if he trusted me to pre-flight the airplane without his supervision. Without a pause, he replied “I would hope so, she’s the one with the pilot’s license!"
She was obviously NOT a Pilot in Pink!
This is where we get to share our triumphs and our lessons as women pilots. Please send your stories to me at debbie@pilotsinpink.com
and I will publish them as often as possible. I hope to hear stories that will make us all laugh and cry at the same time!
What to wear??
Women in general aviation can't win. If we sit in the right seat, the assumption is that we are the passenger. If we sit in the left seat, everyone assumes we are students. My answer to that was "Pilots in Pink"! Dress like a woman, be a woman, but let your clothes and gear scream- "I am a woman pilot"! When you wear our tanks or fleece, or carry a flight bag with the logo-there will be no mistaking who is flying the plane!
